  • Job Description

    HORIZON Retirement Management is a fast-growing manager of retirement residences for seniors with over 1,500 suites in 7 residences in Montreal and Ottawa. We are proud of our over 500 dedicated team members who make a positive impact on residents and their community every day. 


    Reporting to the VP Operations, you have a leadership role in:  developing a high performing culture, recruitment, retention, team member engagement, Labour relations, learning and development, optimizing staffing levels and schedules.  


     Is a knowledgeable and trusted resource in managing the full range of Human Resources matters and supporting the leadership teams in the sites with:  human resources policy and procedure implementation, collective agreements, employment legislation; grievance management; performance management; attendance management; compensation, Health and Safety practices; benefit, retirement and pension plans.


    Job Description:


    Work closely with management teams at the sites on staffing, recruitment, retention, compensation, talent management, employee and Labour relations, performance management, learning and development and employee engagement.


    • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, including conducting thorough and objective investigations.
    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of local employment laws and immigration legal requirements. 
    • Work closely with health and safety teams in each residence.
    • Provide strategic HR direction and interpretation. 
    • Manage and assist with the recruitment of management staff and support the process for effective recruitment of front-line team members in the residences and for Horizon Corporate team. 
    • Enhance and implement Human Resources policies and practices in accordance with current best practices and regulation.  
    • Advise and participate in negotiation, interpretation and application of collective agreements and labor laws.
    • Maintain excellent working relationships with union representatives for each site and positive employee relations.
    • Grievance management: Conduct investigations, compile files and attend arbitration hearings.

    Qualifications:  


    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related academic background. 
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a human resources management position, experience in senior living preferred. 
    • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to solve problems quickly and creatively.
    • Experience Demonstrated ability to lead change management efforts.
    • Thorough knowledge of provincial employment legislation.
    • Fluency in spoken and written French.  Fluency in English is considered an advantage
    • Roles which will be within Horizon Retirement Management  on a reoccurring basis will also be required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.

    What we offer you:


    • Salary between $70,000 and $85,000 depending on experience.
    • 4 weeks’ vacation per year.
